The 4 Mistakes Almost Every Beginner Makes
Acroyoga looks scary before you start, and most of that fear actually comes from a few avoidable mistakes. Here are the four I see most:
1. Not choosing a safe setting
People practice on hard floors or near pointy objects, and if something goes wrong, someone gets hurt. Always start on a mat or soft grass, with clear space around you.
2. Not using alignment
Learning to stack your bones and make straight lines with your arms and legs (as the base) creates a much safer tower. The straighter the lines, the less chance the flyer comes down.
3. Learning without a teacher
This is a physical sport, and in the beginning you need eyes on you that aren't your own. A teacher catches the small stuff before it becomes a fall, and helps you build safely from day one.
4. Not communicating
I see a lot of blaming when something doesn't work. Acroyoga is actually a beautiful chance to practice asking your partner for exactly what you need, as a team, not a blame game.
Put those four together (good guidance, real communication, solid alignment, and a safe space) and you can do way more than you think. It also makes learning choreography together so much easier.
FAQ
Do you need to be flexible or strong to start?
No. Good alignment does most of the work, and strength and flexibility build up as you practice.
Can I learn acroyoga from videos?
Yes, as long as the videos teach technique and safety step by step. In the online school you can also send me your practice videos and get feedback.
